After losing her day job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, former accountant for 10 years, Fatima Hassen decided to turn her life’s challenges into ‘jars of joy’ and founded her own business making and distributing gourmet nuts.
The fearless family woman said while her retrenchment may have come as a financial shock to their unit her faith in God gave her strength to look for other avenues for income. She said the business, aptly called Jar of joy not only brings joy to their customers through their mouth- watering, delicious and addictive exclusive gourmet nuts, but also their family, as everyone came together and got involved in the business.
“My children are my biggest source of inspiration. We are a close- knit family and all of us are team-players. This business brought us closer because we all pitch in and have fun creating the products together,” said Fatima.
She said enjoyed the freedom to dictate her own time that comes with running her own business and encouraged other aspiring entrepreneurs to trust and believe as running your own business was not easy, but ultimately worth it.
“It is important as an entrepreneur to learn to persevere. If you’re thinking of starting your own business just take a leap of faith and believe in yourself,” said Fatima.
During these tough economic times Fatima said true success is the ability to reach out and help others.
“There’s a reason and season for everything so take it a day at a time,” said Fatima who added that she would like to be remembered for helping others.
