How did your journey begin?
My journey began when I followed the advice of my mentor, this made a lot of sense.
The three important points which has changed my life:
Power – If the goal in life is to make a positive impact in society, the only way to get a community of people to hear you is by having a certain amount of power.
Confidence – The only way to obtain that power is by having confidence, confidence is when you believe what you speak, when you are certain about what you say, to be a leader in any industry, you need to be confident or else you lose the confidence of those who look up to you.
Knowledge – To be confident you need to have the knowledge. There is a solution for this, which is reading great business books across all industries. A good example is if you go to a networking event and meet an owner of a plastic factory, you can either close the conversation after asking him what he does, or you can continue by showing him you not a flyby night and ask him what plastic he manufactures. The moment you engage with people and showcase your in-depth knowledge of their industry, they begin to buy their confidence in you.
What are you currently involved with?
Today I am the project manager for Digital Skills Africa, it is a non-profit company which focuses on the key elements of:
- Playing an active role in reducing unemployment
- Empowering all people with career possibilities
- Bringing best-in-class, global technology standards locally
- Educating for today and tomorrow
- Ongoing access for students to reskill and upskill for jobs of the future
- Providing critical digital skills irrespective of education background
So, we do this by providing globally recognized technology certifications at no cost to the public. We currently focusing on empowering the youth with CCNA certifications, which stands for a “Cisco Certified Network Associate”. These are from one of our partners, Cisco Systems, the American Tech Giant that manufactures the infrastructure to create the internet as well as offer other services globally.
Our recent project was at the Marburg Secondary School, where various stakeholders came together and built a multi-million-rand academy with state-of-the-art technology. We currently have more than a thousand students enrolled and in terms of job opportunity, there is a lot of employment available in that sector, taking into consideration that Digital Skills Africa was founded by the captains of the industry. If anyone is interested in signing up for these courses weather it be online or in-class, they can do so at www.marburgsecondary.org , I would personally encourage people to take advantage of this. How do you feel about changing the lives
